'Santa Vitória is a parish in the municipality and district of Beja, located next to a small stream, a tributary of the right bank of the Roxo, about 15 kilometres from the county town. Its patron saint is, as the toponym itself indicates. Santa Vitória, celebrated in a pilgrimage, in the month of August. The feast of Santa Vitória lasts three days, usually covering the weekend, with a dance on the first day, bullfights on the second and a mass and procession on the last day.
The settlement of the territory that corresponds to the current parish of Santa Vitória is quite remote, and this fact is proven by the existence of traces of an old fortification, possibly of a Lusitanian hillfort. Later, this place was used by the Romans to guard the Beja-Aljustrel military road, by Ervidel.
The Mother Church of Santa Vitória was founded in 1284 by religious of the Order of Mercy. With the extinction of this order, it passed with all its income to the possession of the Franciscan nuns of the monastery of Santa Clara de Beja.'
