'On the shores of Monte Santinho, also known as Castro de Roques, is born the parish of Vila de Punhe that shares this castro of the Iron Age, considered one of the largest cividades of this period in the Iberian Peninsula, with the parishes of Vila Franca and Subportela.
The story goes that in this territory were installed Roman agricultural communities that took advantage of its granite, schist and clayey nature. Perhaps for this reason, the people of Vila de Punhe became masters in the construction and modeling of granite and proliferated masons and flowerbeds all over the world. The precious hands of workers from Vila de Punhe helped build the Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the hill of Santa Luzia.
In the built heritage of Vila de Punhe stand out the Calvary of Arques, the emblematic Table of the Three Abbots, which gathers crowds to play at Easter, the Mill of Ignatius, recently requalified, and the transformation of the old primary school of the parish, which already works as the headquarters of the Junta, in Porta do Neiva, dedicated to honey and kaolin, two endogenous products that stand out in the Neiva Valley. This Porta is constituted as a center of tourist-educational reception dedicated to the valorization of the identity heritage of the left bank of Ribeira Lima.
In sports, reference for Neves FC, one of the most important football clubs in the district and that began by enrolling in AF Braga in 1966/67 until the foundation of AF Viana do Castelo in 1972. In 1979/80 they moved up for the first time to Division III and National Division II in 1982/83. The Centro Recreativo e Cultural da Neves supports and develops sports and cultural activities such as table tennis, snooker, karate and athletics, as well as video and film sessions and photography competitions and musical performances.
The Cantadeiras do Vale do Neiva has gained status throughout the world and the group Promotor Auto de Floripes 5 de August is a landmark in the cultural and identity heritage of the parish that shares Largo das Neves with the parishes of Mujães and Barroselas.'
